John Maillard has exhibited in galleries around New Zealand and the United Kingdom for over two decades. John has specialised in landscapes and people, Themes that have taken him on assignment around the world. For the past five years John has focused his attention and lenses on landscapes across New Zealand, assembling a body of work for his fourth book, which is to be published in late 2013. The images are all produced using traditional darkroom skills in the digital environment: dodging, burning, colour control, and contrast. John is very interested in photographic perception, he feels human perception has been dictated too, by camera mechanical perception, He is experimenting with changing the raw data from the camera to match a blend of human perception and imagination, without radically altering the image. The images on display are products of the inspiration that appears in Johns work to occur so effortlessly at the intersection of creativity, skill and individuality.
